Running The Highlands is based in the beautiful North East of Scotland. We organise running holidays, running breaks and training weekends in the Eastern Cairngorms and Royal Deeside for runners of all abilities.

Enjoy a Running The Highlands break or Training Weekend in one of Scotland's most beautiful and interesting areas, where castles, mountains, lochs and amazing wildlife are never far away.

Training Weekends

We are delighted to reveal that Sonia O'Sullivan and Nic Bideau will be our special guests for an additional training weekend which will take place on Royal Deeside on 12th - 14th September 2008.

Download a booking form by clicking here. Or call us on 08451-577422 or 07768-378012 to reserve your place. We are already receiving bookings and haven't advertised yet!

We have built up quite a reputation for superb locations and motivational advice and some really fantastic special guests. We offer guided runs in groups of similar ability along with the chance to learn from some of the sport's experts. Whether you are a relative beginner or an experienced club runner you are bound to enjoy these weekends and learn a lot more about how you can improve your running.

"We found the whole experience fantastic. The setting is ideal. Neil Stewart and his lovely wife, Emma, were very welcoming, well organised......It was truly a wonderful experience and we will return." Gerard Hartmann, Physical Therapist to 53 Olympic athletes including Paula Radcliffe and Dame Kelly Holmes.

See our Reviews and Testimonials page (click here) for details of our two recent weekends at Balmoral (29th Feb - 2nd March and 7th - 9th March). They both turned out to be real crackers; yet again with two super groups of guests (many of whom were returning guests). Our weekend at Douneside House (11th - 13th April) was equally enjoyable. We even had a crew from the BBC here to film us on the Friday as they are featuring Running The Highlands in a programme soon to be shown on TV. We'll be putting a review of the weekend on the Reviews and Testimonials page in the near future but in the meantime here are a couple of photos of some of our guests on the Sunday morning in the Douneside front garden (see if you can spot the snow covered hills in the background of the first pciture!).

Don't forget we also offer all year round bespoke holidays, tailored for individuals, couples, families and groups (e.g. running clubs, schools, colleges and organisations) and have had great feedback from our guests, including Wei Wong, who was here in August for a week's running holiday from Hong Kong. She said "All my expectations were exceeded multiplefold ....simply the most idyllic surroundings to run in ...red deer, golden eagle, red squirrels, black grouse ...with such an awe-inspiring backdrop ....There is no better place to run and have a great holiday."

See our Tailored Holidays page or fill in our online enquiry form with your requirements.

Running The Highlands gives you the chance to get the absolute maximum out of your stay - combining your love of running with all that is to offer:

  • Clean fresh Highland air and spectacular scenery
  • A true wilderness, one of the last remaining in Europe
  • Enjoy expert advice on all aspects of running - training programmes, coaching tips, core stability training, sports massage therapy, gait analysis and nutrition
  • Explore the area - rich in history and culture, not least in the form of Balmoral Castle: the Queen's summer residence. See some of the varied wildlife - there's a good chance you'll see red squirrels and red deer. If you're really lucky you may catch a glimpse of an osprey or even a golden eagle.
  • Relax and sample some of the local culture. (Have a wee dram in a cosy pub or visit the famous Royal Lochnagar whisky distillery - or do both!)
  • Enjoy other activities - canoeing, cycling, hillwalking, climbing, quad-biking, gliding, horse riding... the list is endless.

We are here to take the hassle out of your holiday - get in touch and leave the rest to us!
